Upscaled models for time-varying solute transport: Transient spatial-Markov dynamics

چکیده
Correlated velocity models (CVMs) have proven themselves to be effective tools for describing a wide range of solute transport behaviors in heterogeneous porous media. In particular, spatial Markov (SMMs) are class CVMs where subsequent Lagrangian velocities along trajectories depend only on the current velocity, and not past history. Such provide powerful tool modeling terms limited number flow properties, such as Eulerian point distribution (flow) velocities, tortuosity, scale persistence velocities. However, date, all SMM frameworks applications assumed that underlying is steady-state. this work, we extend SMMs case time-varying flows. We propose, compare, validate alternative numerical implementations, determine conditions validity efficiency based standard physical quantities used describe at Darcy scale. The require additional information relative steady-state discuss under which extra burden warranted. also clear, deterministic tests transient SMM, termed “slow variation” “fast propagation” criteria, offer clear guidance when transient, upscaled reasonable employ. Our work forms basis new framework allowing application efficient realistic conditions.

Time Varying Transition Probabilities for Markov Regime Switching Models
We propose a new Markov switching model with time varying probabilities for the transitions. The novelty of our model is that the transition probabilities evolve over time by means of an observation driven model. The innovation of the time varying probability is generated by the score of the predictive likelihood function. We show how the model dynamics can be readily interpreted. We investigat...
متن کاملTwo-Dimensional Solute Transport with Exponential Initial Concentration Distribution and Varying Flow Velocity
The transport mechanism of contaminated groundwater has been a problematic issue for many decades, mainly due to the bad impact of the contaminants on the quality of the groundwater system. In this paper, the exact solution of two-dimensional advection-dispersion equation (ADE) is derived for a semi-infinite porous media with spatially dependent initial and uniform/flux boundary conditions. The...

متن کاملModeling and Forecasting Iranian Inflation with Time Varying BVAR Models
This paper investigates the forecasting performance of different time-varying BVAR models for Iranian inflation. Forecast accuracy of a BVAR model with Litterman’s prior compared with a time-varying BVAR model (a version introduced by Doan et al., 1984); and a modified time-varying BVAR model, where the autoregressive coefficients are held constant and only the deterministic components are allo...
